expiring lease not being renewed

Postby etainfitz » Wed Apr 16, 2003 7:36 am

Yesterday I received in the mail the following letter dated April 11,2003:

"Dear Tenant

We are sorry to inform you that your lease is expiring 04/30/03 and we will not be renewing your lease.

Please be advised that we will expect you to vacate the apt at that time.

Sincerely Yours

M.Tolentino"

Is this a joke?!!
What are my rights?

To properly advise you, you will need to also give us more detail as to whether you have a lease under your name and is the apt rent regulated or free market.

"me again" is wrong.

Under New York law, a landlord isn't required to give any notice of the ending of a lease for a fixed term.

If the landlord had billed and accepted rent for May, then you would have become a month-to-month tenant, and a 30-day written notice would have had to been served on you by a third party.
