break lease/sign new one?

Postby mjh » Wed Oct 30, 2002 6:52 pm

Two months ago, I signed a lease with a mgmt company for apt A. I know there are apts available in another building with the same mgmt that are closer to the subway but are the same price.

How easy would it be to break the lease for apt A and sign a new one for apt B with the same mgmt company? Do lls let you do this ever? Would they require anything from me? (like $)

Thanks,
Mr. Questioning in Brooklyn

My landlord let me do it, after a year when the lease was about to end and he knew I was good for the rent, though. He let me move out a month before the lease ended. It's worth asking.

it's worth the ask (do this verbally and in writing), but the LL is not obliged to grant it to you. You signed a contract (your lease) and that's binding unless the other party is willing to let you out of it.
