LL responsibilities

Postby Blkbutterfly3 » Fri Aug 02, 2002 3:07 pm

If my question is too mundane or silly for people to answer, I'm sorry. However, I really need to know what a LL is responsible for regarding upkeep of an apartment.

What falls under the "habitability" thing I've read about? Is it only that the LL has to make sure the apartment is safe and not noisy or is the LL responsible for making sure the things that come with the apartment (ie cabinets) are working and in good condition too?

Also, do people in NY generally ask their super to do odd jobs around their apartment? Is that what the super is there for, outside of fixing big things in the building?

If anyone could give an answer, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Your Super is there to fix the things that came with the apt. You are responsible if you caused those things to break.
As for odd jobs, no that is not your Super's job. You should hire a handy man for that. Some people offer thier Super money to do handy man jobs on the side.
The above information is from a non-attorney tenant activist and is not considered or to be used as legal advice.
