Rent increase in the summer

Postby rmtulipano » Thu Jul 10, 2003 8:10 pm

My land lord sent me a letter today that he is increasing my rent by $50 for the months of June- September to cover the AC I just installed last night. I don't think this is fair since 1. the ac was installed in July and 2)our lease agreement calls for all utilities included in the rent. He seems to think this is a reasonable request. Any advice?

Air conditioner charges are very common. Do you have a lease, or are you a month to month tenant?

I have a utilities-included lease too, and paid a $250 flat fee to have an AC. As Chimera said, it's not uncommon (and not all that unreasonable, if you think about it, given the electricity ACs use) Does your lease say anything about the installation of an AC?
