tenant's association board membership eligibility

Postby <zme> » Mon Apr 08, 2002 7:27 pm

i reside in a mitchell lama rental. it is rumored that one of the tenant association board member's is an employee (at another development) of the management agent. is this considered nepotism and can the Board legally include a nepotism policy in its by-laws?

the individual was elected by its building tenants, but did not disclose employment information. Is there an enemy planted on the Board?

Nepotism refers to extending favors to one's own family. The alleged rumour is that someone on the board is an employee of the management agent.

Can the Board have a policy against nepotism, or prohibiting management-agent-employees from serving on it? Certainly - IF the by-laws are amended and such rules are in place. Not an overnight process.

I think you need to first determine what problems if any this alleged board member is causing. Then you need to verify if the rumour is true or is just a rumour. If you've done both those things and are still sufficiently concerned, then throw your hat in the ring and run for board member yourself.
