carriage storage question.

Postby nymom » Sat May 24, 2003 7:52 pm

hi,
Maybe someone can help me out.

Our landlord allowed us to store our carriage in the hall on the ground floor on a hook.
Now there is a tenant near where our carriage is who is handicapped and probably complained(there is another tenant whose carriage is just left on the floor)so now we have to remove the carriage.
Is there any way I can keep putting mine on the hook?
reason for asking, is living on 4th floor walk up.

Also, we do have storage in the basement for years, but don't have a key anymore to the basement, would I be able to put it down there?
Thanks
nymom

No it's not a joke (and we just about canned you for suggesting that) as such services are common and a great benefit for many tenants. The LL might have the right to change the setup, especially if the current arrangement somehow blocks the hallway, but if it's rent stab, they must offer an alternative arrangement. But before getting into that, it seems the LL is just reacting to what he/she might consider an abuse of the situation. Try talking it out with the LL and see if reason can prevail.

I remember reading somewhere that the fire codes in NYC prevent anybody from using hallways in apartment buildings as storage. It's possible that a fire inspector came and gave them a violation for both carriages.
