Question About This Forum and About NY Law

Postby JaneB82 » Sat Sep 24, 2011 1:34 pm

First of all, is this board a tenant advocate board, or is it neither pro-tenant nor pro-landlord?

Also, what is the procedure for handling a rent debt that the tenant believes is not owed because a) they rented the apartment to someone else when she stopped paying for an apartment she couldn't live in and requested the lease be broken, b) she was forced out of that apartment because her life was in danger due to her roomate's violent abuse, and c) she was not notifed of any judgment, just a collection agency notification.

If this were a pro-tenant board, I assume this info would already have been forthcoming. As the recession digs in, it seems those who don't have the bucks are subject to more aggressiveness from those who do. What's happening? Where's the tenant advicacy now?

Thanks.
