I am living in an apartment in Brooklyn as a month-to-month tenant in a private house. The landlord lives in the building. At the end of July I am moving out of state.
I have lived in this apartment for seven years, and there has been no damage, other than normal wear and tear. I am concerned that my landlord (greedy) will not return my security deposit (one month's rent). I am considering telling my landlord to use my deposit as the last months rent.
Are there any legal issues or pitfalls in doing this? Any opinions are welcome.
