deposit reduction

Postby ctny » Tue Sep 11, 2012 8:30 pm

I recently moved out of an apartment, and the landlord is saying I left some damages so he will deduct my security deposit. Some issues I do recognize, I am not sure what he will do, but I want to be prepared so I don't get over charged...

On a damage I recognize, I assume if the landlord get some company to fix it, then he must produce a receipt before I agree to deduct the deposit, right?

If he makes the repair himself, is he allowed to charge me? How can I determine if it is reasonable in that case? If he said he paid cash without a receipt, how do I respond?

On a custom door, I made some holes. The landlord is saying it is not possible to repair, and wants X dollars for the damage, how do I know it is reasonable?

Get a repair estimate of your own for the door.
