My apartment rent was increased 11.5%, and I was only given a 30 day notice. It is my understanding that I should have been given a 60 days notice because the increase exceeds 10%.
But, the 11.5% increase includes a $200 premium to rent month to month instead of signing a lease. Is the premium considered rent? Should I include the premium when calculating the rent increase percentage?
I would think that the apartment complex has to report the rental premium received as rent collected on their taxes so shouldn't I also consider the premium as extra rent when calculating the overall increase?
