Safety

I am in the middle of my lease that doesn't end until Jan. 31, 2002. I have had problems with the apartment such as the air conditioner went out when my newborn was 2 days old, her doctor said she shouldn't be in above 90 degrees, so after the maintenance kept telling us they were going to fix it the next day, on the 5th day we had to leave and stay with family 2 hours away for the baby's safety (in which we didn't have money for, and had to borrow). They finally fixed it after a week. The above bathroom leaks in on ours constantly, the walls are tearing, etc. But we were going to stick through it. Then last night there was a gun fight above our apt., in the bedroom above the one that me, my husband, and my now 6week old baby were in. Luckily, the bullets were not shot down, so our apt. wasn't hit. But I feel extremely unsafe and scared for my baby. Will I be able to be taken to court if we leave our lease early?
