Hopefully, you saved copies of letters sent. Did you also take or have any pics of apt.
LL would have to sue in civil court for damages (and win) before could make a claim on your credit report.
Would probably wait until papers are served....in case LL bluffing to shake you down for money. Would also try to find atty (in area familiar with constructive eviction).

It is tenant's responsibility to fill in holes (touch up) from hanging pictures. [More so if lease prohibits hanging anything on walls.] However, unless holes were excessive....painting should be wear and tear.
Only a court can decide if this is a valid claim. Absolutely dispute collection claim. Request court order, otherwise invalid claim.
If you are going to hire an atty., might want to consider suing for deposit.
