Canadian living in California could use advice

Hello All;

This is my first post - so hello to everyone here. I am living temporarily in LA until next May. I had a lease for one year but that expired in January of this year and now it's month to month.

Unfortunately, my pay comes at odd times - the 5th and the 20th of the month. Up until now, the landlady (who's really odd to say the least) has been pretty nice about it but now she says she will start charging me a late fee. I don't have a problem with that, but my concern is that she also said she's now going to tally up every time I paid her late and charge me for that too. Is that legal for her to do?
