permits

Postby dscnyc » Fri Mar 24, 2006 3:24 pm

Hello,
Besides going to the department of building website (http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/html/home/home.shtml, where can I find out if the landlord who recently bought my apartment building is getting building permits?

Landlord's required to post any work permits in plain view.

Posting permits, while required, is hardly enforced (in my experience with LL who failed to post: both DOB + Judge found this to be no big deal).

Plus posting "in plain view" is open to wide interpretation.

If you don't find a record of Permits on DOB website (which is updated very frequently -- new applications / permits appear within days of action at DOB) then this is a clear indication that LL has not applied / does not have permits.

You can call DOB (via 311) and register a complaint of "work without permits" if the work being performed requires permits.
