last opportunity to pay rent

Postby nyc_dream » Wed Nov 12, 2014 11:54 pm

I am involved in a non-payment/ eviction process.
It's early. I am about to see a clerk, submit my defenses in 2 days.

In the middle of Dec I have money coming my way. I am afraid I may not have it in time to pay on the court date. When I go to court can I ask the judge to grant me time to pay? I would need no more than 2 weeks after the court appearance.

What is the last opportunity to pay rent?

This should be a continuation of your thread from yesterday.

But yes, just tell the court that you expect to' have the money in a few weeks. BUT ... and this is a big but ... if you do that, and something happens and you can't pay the amount, then you could get screwed, especially if they formalize this is a stipulation. Under no circumstances should you agree to or sign a stipulation that has the word "judgment" in it. Do not do it.

Better to find some other way to extend your time. If this is your first time on, it's quite common for the case to be adjourned to a later date. You might even get a date after Jan. 1st. And even better, the LL might ask for an adjjournment.
