How to find a tenant attorney

Postby SaraCh » Thu Oct 08, 2015 9:35 pm

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to find a tenant lawyer that would wok on a contingency fee basis? Or a low cost or pro bono lawyer.

A number of tenant attorneys advertise here.

Contingency is rare, usually they charge by the hour on a retainer. You might be able to get a low-cost consultation. But with anything, you get what you pay for. A good tenant attorney specializes in tenant matters and does not represent landlords. Ask them. Most general purpose attorneys - that also do immigration, personal injury and so on - are not good choices for tenant attorneys in our opinion.

If your income is low enough, you might qualify for Legal Aid or Legal Services.

The 2015 response is still valid. A good place to start would be the lawyers who advertise on this site.
