DRIE SCRIE and MCIs

Postby Cylon452 » Tue Dec 07, 2021 1:01 am

I searched the forums and cannot find a question in relation to DRIE/SCRIE and MCIs.

Question. Since DRIE and SCRIE freezes apartment rents does this apply to MCIs ?

Thank you in advance

We believe it does, and it might even be somewhat retroactive, applying to MCI increases that were already in process or recently granted. But ... you should check with Dept. of Finance (SCRIE) to make sure.

By email: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/finance/about ... dsman.page
or scrie@finance.nyc.gov
or SCRIE-Ombuds@finance.nyc.gov
or DRIE-Ombuds@finance.nyc.gov

Also worth looking at: https://volsprobono.org/wp-content/uplo ... l-2015.pdf

There is a phone number, but I can't find it right now. You might get through by calling 311. Try the email first.

I found this Fact sheet 24
https://hcr.ny.gov/system/files/documen ... 0-2019.pdf

Last page. page 9 last paragraph states:

15. Do I have to pay a rent increase if I receive SCRIE/DRIE?
No. Tenants in New York City who receive Senior
Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) or
Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE) should
call 311 to receive information about their rent
exemption after an MCI order.

Tenants outside of New York City should contact their local
SCRIE/DRIE office to receive information about their rent
exemption after an MCI order. Tenants should
make a copy of the MCI order and send it to their
SCRIE/DRIE office so that their exemption can be
updated.

There are No MCIs in effect so there is no retroactive MCIs on the building i currently live in. No MCI in process or have been granted.
