FEMA application: how to tell the landlord?

Postby christo8000 » Mon Jul 01, 2002 4:47 pm

Hi..I need some advice. My landlord took me to court because I had not been able to pay my rent for several months. Under the court order, I have to pay my landlord all the amount I had owed spread in several month installment plus the current month's rent. It said if I don't pay by the 15th every month, I will face an eviction. This is hard for me since I'm so broke.

Last week I heard that FEMA is expanding the program to help people who can't pay for their rent. I told them about my situation, especially about my possible eviction, and they believed they could assist me and would process my application asap.

So my questions are:

1) Should I tell my landlord that I probably won't be able to pay the amount due by the 15th this month because I'm waiting to hear from FEMA?

2) Would my landlord still be able to evict me if I didn't pay by the 15th?

3) Should I also notify the court about my FEMA application so they don't try to evict me?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
