Illegal sublet eviction-refusal to renew lease

My landlord is refusing to renew my rent stabilized lease which expires next month. I received a notice to cure claiming illegal sublet. I was away for a few months and stupidly subletting without official notification to LL, but am moving back in soon though a little bit after the 10 days from when I received the notice. Besides replying to to the notice to cure that a friend was staying with me, what are the best way to deal with this. Should I contact DHCR, or wait to respond to an eviction notice, or whatever comes next?
