Landlord demands keys

Postby mlp » Sat Jul 06, 2002 1:04 am

I need advice. My LL is demanding that I give him a set of keys to my apt. or he will break my locks and install new ones at my expense. Is this legal? If he does this what can I do? Help.

Yes your LL is entitled to have a copy of the keys in case of an emergency. You can install your own lock above the one that's normally provided.

Of course just because your LL has a set of keys he's not entitled to enter your apartment without 24 hours notice, or unless it's an emergency.
