concessional rent

Postby bluensleepy » Wed Mar 05, 2003 1:01 pm

What is concessional rent? Can you really pay only 1/3 of the regular rental price? How do you get that? One of my classmates told me that if you are a minority and a student, you can walk into any apartment building in the city and speak with the manager. A certain fraction of the apartments are to be available for minorities or low income people. So they can charge you about 1/3 of the regular going rate. Is that true? Can I really walk into a building and speak to a manager and ask for that?

Never heard of that but I've heard of the 80/20 rule, which states that a certain percentage of apartments in any new building must be set aside for lower income/senior citizens & disabled people. I don't know if the lower income bracket includes "students". Wouldn't that fall under designated student housing at the college on goes to?
