legal subletting for yr and now ll decided to stop takin

Postby amykwilliams » Thu Sep 26, 2002 3:14 pm

ll said i can legally sublet from my friend for one more year (2 yrs total), but that he will not take my checks any longer. logistics of sending checks back and forth to my friend in sf seems tedious (and increases chance for rent check to be late). is there any legal ground for him to just stop taking checks from me after i've paid on time with my checks for one year?

I'm not sure about this BUT...

I don't think the LL should have been taking checks from you in the first place.

When I "legally" subletted a place...I still sent my rent to the "prime tenent".

Your LL may have realized this (mistake?) and now wants things done by the books to avoid problems later on.

I'd check up on this but isn't there some law somewhere that says if a LL accepts your check/money that he recognizes YOU as the tenent? Again, not sure...and I don't know how it helps you in your situation.
Advice only. Take what you want...throw away the rest. :)
