Rent guarantor moved out

My ex-roommates brother was the guarantor of my apt. He moved out last August when the new lease came. I signed the lease also. Is the apartment mine? Was he the guarantor only for the first year? Also, I do I find out the true rent for this apartment?

Call DHCR they should have a rent history of your apartment. Your landlord can only raise rent leagally a certain amount. It is possiable to lower you rent this way but it is very time consuming
