do i have to move when my LL sells?

Postby llam1234 » Sun Sep 29, 2002 4:58 pm

my partner and i have been living on the top floor of a brownstone for 1 1/2 years, it is unregulated. earlier this year we were asked to renew our lease 3 months earlier than necessary, which we did. now all of a sudden they tell us that they are selling and we'll have to move. i am not looking to pay another hefty realtor's fee, especially when we haven't been here that long!

the brownstone has just been put on the market, so we don't even know when we are moving if we have to leave. and they won't let us break the lease if we find a new place.

but i can't help but feel like we've been taken for a ride, everything seems to be on their terms. what are my rights, please help?

Does your lease have a provision that allows the landlord to terminate the lease early if he sells the building?

If not, you have the right to remain until the end of the lease term.
