Refrigerator not working for 7 days

Postby yogi » Sun Feb 23, 2003 10:26 pm

Hi Folks
My refrigerator stopped working one week ago on 2/160/03. I left two messages to the landlord in a period of 3 days after that. Never heard back from him.
I tried calling him again yesterday and today but his voice mail is full and I can't leave any more messages.
One of my friends told me that not paying my rent for March may not work since I may get evicted if I don't pay my rent.
What should be my course of action? In California its a law that if a major appliance like refrigerator stops working, it has to be fixed in 48 hours.
What is the law in New York and How should I proceed from here?

Thank you so much for your help.

Probably the best thing to do is put it in writing, including the number of times, and dates you tried to call him, and either send it to him registered mail, or FedEx overnight. Either way you should have proof of delivery.

Inform him that if the refrigerator isn't repaired in 10 days, you'll deduct the cost of a replacement from the rent.
