Left the sublet - I want to get reimbursed

Hi,

I was looking for a one month apt. for February, in Manhattan...
I saw a posting on Craigslit for a 1-broom.

I went to visit the apt., and it was partially furnished, a sofa, desk, table... The bedroom was empty, but the person living there told me he could order a mattress if I wanted...

He was not on the lease, and was subletting the apt from a friend...

When I got there to give him the deposit + month rent, the mattress was not here... He told me it should be delivered the following Monday... The lease was officially starting that Monday...

He was travelling abroad.
I sent him an e-mail that very same Monday, when the mattress was not coming, telling him that I would leave the apt by 6 pm that day if I hadn't gotten the mattress... I mailed him the keys that week...

I have no written lease agreement, just e-mails, but the mattress was never mentioned...

How can I get reimbursed for the month rent... He reimbursed me the deposit, but I want to be reimbursed for the month rent as well...
