"Building in Litigation" Can I break my lease?

Postby annamuna » Tue Sep 22, 2009 11:30 am

My landlord has posted in the entryway "Building in Litigation as of June 2009" She is in a dispute with her brother over the building. He wants to sell it. Can I break my lease early? Need advice! Thank you.

Is there a clause in your lease stating that the agreement remains in effect if ownership of the property changes hands?

Most leases contain such language.

It wouldn't seem that the situation you describe would be grounds for cancellation of your existing lease agreement.
