Rent Increase and eviction in NYC condo

Postby curiousJoe » Mon Feb 27, 2012 6:51 pm

Hi all, a friend of mine rents a condo apartment in nyc. He is month to month right now and the LL sent a letter indicating they want to increase the rent significantly or he can move out in 60 days. Is this legal?

Probably, unless he was a renter when the unit was converted (if an older bldg) and if it was rent stab. For month-to-month tenants, the required notice in NYC is 30 days.
