We are leaving our apartment at the end of May and have given the landlord notice that we will not be renewing the lease. Our lease technically ends on April 30 but the landlord agreed to give us a one month extension (at the new higher rent) due to scheduling issues that would make moving out at the end of April a hardship.
We have already received calls from brokers wanting to come in and assess the state of the apartment to see "what needs to be done for the new tenants" and schedule showings for potential new tenants.
My question is this, how far in advance of our vacating the property must we make the apartment available for these things? We don't want to live in a construction zone while they make whatever repairs they decide to nor do we want another full time job showing our apartment to new people. What are our rights and obligations in this circumstance?
