Legal fees - how much? Recoupable?

Postby hirschma » Wed May 05, 2004 8:10 pm

Hi,

My landlord has sent me a Non-Payment Petition. I'm fighting it with the best possible defense - I've already paid!

I'm thinking of hiring an attorney. Can anyone tell me how much I can expect to pay? Also, is there any chance of having the judge award me legal fees, since I've paid the rent (and can prove it)?

Thanks.

If your lease includes a clause giving the landlord legal fees in a court dispute over rent, you can recover fees if you prevail and your lawyer applies for them.
Keep in mind that I am a tenant. Not a lawyer!!!!!
