coop trying to prevent me from selling my apartment

Postby singer » Sat May 12, 2007 8:02 am

I have a situation where my coop is trying to prevent me from selling my apartment in retaliation for a lawsuit which I had with them many years ago.
Several members of the coop board are affiliated with the sponsor. The sponsor also owns the managing agent. The hostility is originating from the sponsor -- the managing agent and coop board are basically under his control.

I need to sell my apartment in order to pay for medical treatment & continue my health insurance. This is a desperate situation for me. I don't have the time or money to get into another legal battle.

I'm hoping there must be an agency who can mediate this situation and prevent unfair harassment of coop shareholders.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

I wouldn't necessarily wait for a substantive response here as this is a tenants' rights board, not a coop/condo board. However, I've never heard of any agency that mediates this sort of dispute. I don't know if it's possible, but given the equity in your apartment, is it possible to secure an equity loan?
