Lottery (80/20) apartment tenants amenities...?

Postby freddieM » Sat Jun 20, 2009 2:08 am

Hi all, we just scored an 80/20 apartment and are set to go look at our unit on monday. It is in a new fully decked out building with gym, pool, deck, rec. room etc. Are we as one of the "20" families able to use these amenities? They are free for the "80" crowd. Anyone know what is usually the case...? It would seem discrimination to a degree if not. Thanks!

80/20 is a scam to reward developers making it seem as if it is helping the lower income tenants. While perhaps you and a few others might benefit, neighborhoods as a whole often lose with the influx of higher income residents. We can't say what will be the policies in your particular building -- you will need to ask -- but it would not be surprising if they would prohibit your use or ask for additional compensation. We have heard of that and other instances of discrimination.

Thanks for the response. I understand your POV but in our case it is most certainly helping our family.
