Wine Damaged by Heat

Postby pobrian1 » Thu Feb 22, 2018 2:46 pm

I have a question regarding heat damage to our wine collection. We have an apartment that we do not live in, and only visit occasionally. We do not have renters insurance for the apartment. Recently, when we were not at the apartment over a 3 week period, the building’s heat malfunctioned and (even though our thermostat was set to “off”), the heat in the apartment went to nearly 90 degrees. As a result, a couple thousand dollars worth of wine we have there has been “cooked” and ruined. Because the heat failure was a maintenance issue, do we have any recourse for the value of the wine?

Are you serious? People are getting evicted and you're worried about some wine?

There's a housing emergency in NYC and you're using an otherwise empty apartment to store wine?

I'm assuming if you can afford to pay for a complete additional non-RS apartment to store some wine, that you can afford Renter's Insurance - it's not that expensive. I'm also assuming you can afford a lawyer.

BTW, start by reading the fine print of your lease ... or pay someone to do it for you. Shame on you.

Everyone should get renter's insurance: it's cheap and there's no downside.
