carpeting at end of lease

I'm preparing to move out of my apartment. The carpeting has some stains, from when my dog bit into a bingo marker. I can't get them out. I know that the carpeting is over 5 years old. I will do my best to steam clean, but could I be liable for replacing the whole carpet?!
