Funny thing is, now that you've edited your post, the responses now don't make much sense and there's a presumption that what you said (now gone) was actually racist.

This is the third time in the last week or two that someone has eviscerated a thread. Here, the motivation was different than what we saw with the others. But the impact is the same.

Perhaps I should disable the editing function altogether.

No need to do that, TN. I will add a comment apologizing for misunderstanding what she said, which will reference what she said, and it will all be clear. Sorry for all this.

i only edited it because i was told to, not because i believe i actually said anything wrong..and by the way, we are looking for a new place..thing is that unfortunatly my husband hasnt gotten his green card yet which is why we have a hard time finding a place. he can never get a very good job and because of this we cant apply for places which we would like. it took us almost a year to even find this crappy place.(though it seemed nice when we first moved in..we were so desperate for a place we moved in less then a week after my husband sawit..my husband trusted the guy since he knew him from the store our LL owns) and thats why i was surprised that everything was taken the wrong way. i didnt want to bring this my husbands problem up and i know it holds no relevance, its just bothering me that people are making it sound like i want my children to live here. when you're living from pay check to pay check and only have one person working 11 hrs a day on low wages off the books, its kind of hard. and the rats are gone, we called an exterminator over a month ago. its when we called that the LL got angry at us and didnt think they should pay the bill. its been downhill since then.

Tomi, I didn't expect you to edit your post so long after the whole thing was hashed out. SOOOO I have edited MY post so the whole thing makes sense and TN doesn't slap our wrists again! ;)

Your LL is scum, plain and simple. You have done nothing wrong, and I certainly don't think you're staying there by choice. I know what it's like to be stuck in a situation due to difficult circumstances. But don't make this easy for him by just leaving... leave, YES. But sue the pants off him when you've found a new place, and bust his a** for the illegal unit. He'll have to either dismantle it or apply for permits and bring it up to code.

Thanks Bleary for making it a bit more clear. Tomi, you probably didn't realize it but Bleary's original remarks were a suggestion, not a command. He's not the moderator, I am :) . We have a difference of opinion as to when remarks are inappropriate.

Let's all move on.
