Any Obligation by LL to Renew?

Postby Wary In NY » Sat Apr 12, 2008 9:20 pm

I don't think so - but maybe there Is something in NY law that requires him to renew if the Tenant is paid up, etc.?

In past years my LL sent me a notice over 3 mos before end of lease term "offering" to renew, and sayign I had to inform them by 60 days before end of term. This year, it is less than 60 days until lease expires, and I have heard nothing.
This year I complained several times to the LL about lack of services, and incompetent staff. My complaints were addressed, but clearly the Super was unhappy about having to do work. Now it looks like they don't want to renew.

Are you rent-stabilized? If so, the LL has an obligation to renew (actually, technically, the landlord has the obligation to renew if he wants to raise the rent - he can not send you a renewal, but if he doesn't, you can stay as long as you want at the same rent).

If you're not RS, the LL has no obligation to renew.
