how to find out if my apartment is a legal residence

Postby bootsiebank » Wed Aug 19, 2009 12:28 pm

Does anyone know how I can find out if the apartment I live in is a legal residence? I live in the downstairs of a converted carriage house behind my landlords house. I live in Ulster County, Upstate NY, and the DHCR can't help. Also, I'm moving out in 2 weeks but if it isn't a legal apartment would I have to leave immediately? Thanks!

If you're moving out in 2 weeks why do you care if it's legal or not?

Because my land lord is a jerk and I'm afraid he's going to try to get money out of me...somehow...so I want some leverage....
