IF I win in Housing Court will it still show up on my cr

Postby jeanstrong » Mon Jan 27, 2003 4:29 pm

I am fighting a Petition for Non-Payment in Housing Court 111 Centre Street. Will this filing show up on my credit report regardless of outcome?

As far as I know, Housing Court doesn't report to any credit agencies. They don't even take your Social Security number which would ve necessary in order to report.

However, the case does become a part of the public record and the public generally has access to that.

What Cranky says is true in both cases. The issue is not really credit reports. There are companies that collect public records (like court records) and sell them in databases for a fee. LLs, especially the bigger, more organized ones, tend to check these databases before giving a lease to a prospective renter. If you have a housing court case, defendant or plaintiff, winner or loser, you'll show up. Some LLs take the position that they don't want to rent to anyone who's had any housing court action whatsoever.
