On May 21, 2002, the news media announced that terrorists were planning to blow up apartment buildings as part of their attacks on the U.S. A person has to wonder why terrorists would choose apartment buildings as a target--especially when considering that two very poignant targets, the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, were chosen
previously. Why would terrorists choose some random apartment building?
Often times when investigating a crime, the police will look for a motive. Landlords who
lost money in the stock market would certainly have a motive to destroy buildings where apartments have been priced so high most people refuse to rent. A "mysterious" bombing of
such a building could allow a landlord to collect the insurance. In the present-day hysteria
over terrorists, who would suspect a greedy landlord?
Landlords who know that a corporation is seeking larger lot space for building of superstores may “mysteriously” experience “terrorist” events that level property ready for rebuilding. Thus saving themselves and the superstores the cost of removing old buildings that are so out-dated that their electrical wires are brittle, their lead pipes poisonous and wrapped with asbestos and their timbers eaten by termites and roaches. Landlords do not want to carry the cost of such
demolition and removal--how to avoid it? A terrorist “act” could reduce a building to rubble without out the need to follow environmental codes and the government (with tax payers money)
could finance the removal.
Could some warnings of terrorist actions be a cover for landlord terrorism? It's something we all know they are capable of doing.
