Intent to Vacate

Postby flynn1 » Mon Jul 22, 2002 10:42 am

I'd like to break my two year lease 10 months in. My lease has a clause that I could terminate provided I send a Letter of Intent to Vacate to the LL with at least 90 days notice. The letter then goes on to say that the apartment can be shown while we're still occupying it, etc. But then the same clause states that "Tenant shall be responsible for the rent until such time that the apartment is re-rented." Does this mean that even with the required 90 days notice, that I could be responsible for a year's rent if, hypothetically, it takes that long to rent the unit? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, that's exactly what it means. See if you can coax your LL into letting you find the new tenant (get it in writing)...
The above information is from a non-attorney tenant activist and is not considered or to be used as legal advice.
