Too hot hot water?

Postby Landlord's Boy » Fri Oct 07, 2011 9:50 am

If your hot water suddenly seems too hot, I urge you to contact your super or landlord.

The cause is usually a failed mixing valve, a device that adds cold water to the hot so the water in the lines is kept at a safely low temperature.

At this time of year when the boiler switches from producing just hot water to producing both steam and hot water is when an otherwise unnoticed broken mixing valve suddenly becomes noticeable. You don't want you or your kids scalded, do you?

Emeraldstar what is that about?

Thanks for the info LLBoy. That is a problem particularly for tenants with small children. I never understood how the water would get too hot and then stay cold for a week.
