Hello,
My building just received from the owner a "Notice of Owner's Filing of Notice of Intent to Dissolve" -- they want to get out of Mitchell-Lama.
The owner indicated he wanted to go with an affordability plan to sell apartments to tenants and keep rents affordable to non buyers. (Our tenant association worked out a potential deal with him.)
My question: Is he under any obligation to do so?
If he decides to do market rate, how much time will tenants have to move?
There are a lot of people in this building who simply cannot afford market rents. We are panicking. Any advice on where to go for help?
Do we have any rights at all?
Please note: our building, on Roosevelt Island, was built around 1976.
