Temp Measure

Postby Emeraldstar » Sat Jan 28, 2012 1:40 pm

Hi All
Neighbors are having heat issues. Putting this question to the forum for opinions.
The question arised what would be the best type thermometer for us to purchase to measure temps within our apts? Is there one that may hold more credibility? Now keep in mind we don't want to be meterologists just accurate in facts.
Our thinking is if we all have the same equiptment & agree which room to place it we should overall get close to similar readings.
Thank you TN & forum for you valued input.

The better question is how to get the heat log into evidence, and that assumes they'll be going to court. If there's an HPD inspector, he/she will bring a thermometer. You can see then what type they have.

One lawyer suggested getting a thermometer that is "certified for accuracy". Why not start with Google or Amazon? I just Googled "thermometer certified for accuracy" and got a lot of results. It was suggested the tenant save the packaging and instructions of any thermometer.

ANd to determine what to buy, I would Google "about thermometers" - read up in Wikipedia, about.com, ehow.com and elsewhere. Look for words like precision, certified, etc. You don't need something that NASA would use, but you still want something more than what you would get at a 99 cent store. Consider the conditions when taking temperatures. What time of day, is there direct sun on the device, are you using a heat log, and so on.

A friend has started using her cell phone to take 20 sec vids, showing indoor thermo temp, window (confirm time of day) and the local news channel that shows time and outdoor temp. She emails them to herself to keep on file, to eventually attach to the heat log... Not sure if it's going to be admissible but figure it can't hurt. I'll be sure to tell her to make sure her thermo is certified.
It's very challenging to come up with ways to document heat issues.
The above isnt legal advice - just an opinion.
