Getting rid of a family member…

Postby SamIam2412 » Tue Feb 07, 2012 11:41 am

I have a family member that has been living in my house for quite some time now. They do not pay any rent. Recently, this family member has vandalized my property and I want them out. I know that when someone has been living with you for quite some time you have to give them a certain amount of days to leave. However, since this person pays no rent and the fact that they have vandalized my property and I am scared that they will continue once I start taking actions for them to leave; can I just give this person about three days to get out?

Three days is certainly not enough. It depends on if the family member lives in your household, or if they live in a separate unit under your control or ownership. This also assumes you either own the building/house or if you are the prime tenant on a lease (and if anyone else is also on the lease).

Beyond that, you must know we're here to help defend tenants and prevent them from getting evicted. So this would be the wrong website to help you.
