Temporary to Permanent resident status NYCHA

Postby jameson » Wed Dec 23, 2015 10:52 pm

Last summer I was granted Temporary residence status at a NYCHA housing complex because my elderly mom wanted me to reside with her and help her out with her needs. My Temporary status will terminate in the spring but with me being currently unemployed and the fact that my mother wants me to continue to reside with her, is it possible to upgrade my temporary status to permanent? Do I have to fill out another application for it? Will NYCHA give me a hard time over this? What other information about me will NYCHA want? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

We said essentially the following to another user yesterday:

Unfortunately we cannot offer advice on NYCHA apartments and tenants. NYCHA is in a world of its own and seems to make-up rules depending on the day of the week or how they feel any given moment. We don't have the experience with NYCHA to give accurate advice.

I would go to Bronx Legal Services or Legal Aid (they do know how NYCHA works) and lay it all out for them. Tell them everything.
