Postby jeanstrong » Mon Jan 27, 2003 5:10 pm

I'm worried that if I dont go down to the court
that I will get scr#$%wed in some way. Should I listen to them? What do they have to do on their end to fix this?

I would go to court and answer it no matter what your LL says.

Yea, if you ignore it and the Marshall knocks on your door to evict you, saying "but the landlord told me to ignore it" is not going to convince him.

We're confirming what others have advised. Never ever ignore court papers from the landlord. It's a common tactic for LLs to tell tenants to ignore it. Until a judge says 'discontinued' or 'dismissed' or until you agree to a stip (which you should never do without an attorney's advice and without your FULLY understanding all its ramifications), then the case is still on. If you're on the west side of Manhattan - as your user name suggests - then immediately go to Housing Conservation Coordinators at 500 W. 52nd St., 4th floor (call first to confirm that address 212-541-5996) and get help.
