Eviction and personal possessions

Postby tonyh1977 » Sat Nov 19, 2016 2:57 pm

I can't pay the rent any longer. I know I'll be evicted in a month or 2. What will happen to my possessions?

I can't afford storage....

When an court-ordered eviction occurs, if the tenant doesn't move his possessions, the LL usually puts it into storage. The tenant must pay the cost of storage to get the items out.

If you know this is coming, best to start planning as soon as possible.

Do you know generally how long the possessions will remain in storage before the facility throws it all out?

Is that up to the court? Or the facility?

Thanks

Don't know. I would concentrate on improving your situation so you can afford your rent, or find another place that's less expensive.

If rent regulated, look to see if you are being overcharged.
