Rent stabilized tenants are restricted in how much they can sublet for or charge roommates becuase R.S. tenants already pay an artificially low rent.

Non rent stabilized tenants can charge whatever they want in a roommate or sublet situation.

Probably your best option, if you plan to stay in NY, is to seek out your own apartment, with a lease in your name.
